How Does Hair Grow?

The level or degree of response to a single biocellular hair restoration treatment cannot be predicted or known in advance since each individual has unique regenerative capabilities. Results vary depending on hair loss causation and the individual’s regenerative capacity. At Hogue Clinics, a single hair restoration treatment is performed, then respone to treatment is evaluated at six months. While visible results may be seen as early as several weeks, follow up photos are obtained at six months following a biocellular hair restoration treatment.

Following a biocellular hair restoration treatment at Hogue Clinics, your scalp will be rinsed in our procedure room sink and you will go home looking essentially the same as you did prior to the procedure. There will be minimal to no bleeding or downtime due to the rapid healing effects of the injected HD-PRP. It is of vital importance to avoid taking any aspirin, NSAIDs, or blood thinners for 10 days prior to a biocellular hair restoration treatment. Mild tissue swelling from the ring block anesthesia infrequently affects the forehead and upper face area, along with the potential for bruising. A Velcro cloth headband is recommended to be worn for 24-48 hours to minimize facial swelling and edema.

The option of either a single volume of 180-mL, or a double volume of 360-mL of whole blood, is drawn from a patient’s arm vein. If hair loss is restricted to the top of the head, crown, frontal region, and temple areas, then a single volume of blood is usually sufficient. If the entire scalp exhibits hair loss or thinning, then a double volume of blood may be recommended. The whole blood is placed in our Angel® Whole Blood Separation System, spun down to isolate high-density platelet-rich plasma (HD-PRP). From the original 180-mL to 360-mL of blood, approximately 20-mL to 40-mL of HD-PRP is obtained for use during the biocellular hair restoration treatment. This 180-mL or 360-mL whole blood amount drawn for a single Mega HD-PRP hair restoration treatment at Hogue Clinics is significantly more blood than what most other hair restoration specialists harvest for a treatment session.

This is why we routinely only perform one biocellular hair restoration treatment, then wait six months to evaluate the treatment response, whereas other hair restoration specialists often recommend multiple treatments performed at weekly to monthly intervals. The collection of whole blood to isolate HD-PRP is done since platelet-rich plasma contains a highly enriched number of platelet cells that promote the body’s natural healing process by releasing 30+ powerful growth factors, cytokines, proteins, and peptides to collectively stimulate hair, skin, and tissue regeneration. The collected fat aspirate is centrifuged and filtered to isolate fat aspirate concentrate (FAC), which can be easily injected through tiny 25-Gauge or smaller needles into the scalp. For the ultimate in biocellular hair restoration, FAC, HD-PRP, ACell®, and scalp microneedling are all used during a single treatment session.
